mesilikas wrote: Sun Dec 22, 2019 2:04 pm Seems to me that banksia it does not use the opening book that is active. It is open the opening tree but the engine plays the move which it thinks that is better.
The opening book you are watching from Opening dialog (open via Tools menu) may be different from one BSG uses to play. What you open in that dialog won't affect playing either.

Actually, there are three book groups: the books for studying in Opening dialog, the books BSG uses to play for human vs computer and the books for tournaments. They are quite independent and may be different.
mesilikas wrote: Sun Dec 22, 2019 2:04 pm Another problem that i have is when setup a level in fixed nodes per move the engine going beyond this limit.
If you set the limit by nodes or by depths, BSG will send the limit to engines when they are starting thinking. That is all, BSG won't check if they break the limit since BSG can't measure, don't know their internal data (some info engines print out may come too late, not much meaning or not good enough to use to punish them). Basically, those limits are mostly for developing and engines/developers should be faithful to themselves.
mesilikas wrote: Sun Dec 22, 2019 2:04 pm And last i cant open pgn files. Any thoughts?
BSG should open well PGN files. Can you attach (post) them here (or send me, email in About dialog of BSG). I will check. Thanks.

I have a huge request and question phhnguyen. Please write where to select any options so that programs show the correct rating of the engine during the game.

1) Bugs fixed: almost all known bugs so far, including:
- Can't detect engines which space characters in their paths
- Did not use init strings for engines (those strings work as command line parameters)

2) Some small improvements/adjustments

3) New features:
- Customization clock: position, colors, font sizes
- Remember multi-users' themes and layouts
- Piece size can be scaled
- Create opening books PGN and EPD
Nice GUI, excellent work :!:

There seems to be an issue also on fifty moves aside from the issue on repetition that was already reported by Guenther.

Code: Select all

board: 29, status: termination is fifty moves but was not.

Re: Banksia GUI released..A Few Issues

Post by supersharp77 »

Well It seems my flirtation with the New Banksia GUI may be coming to a End (For Now).....Verison 0.9 was working so so (had a few tourney crashes but it would load and play engine games...Version 0.10 did not load either uci or wb engines for the most part...(it did load elo ratings but no + or - points moves seen) Version 0.11 loaded engines and plays games but the "Dreaded GUI tourney crash problem continues...(after almost 1 month no tourneys completed..a total disaster).....What will be needed is a tourney save box and a way to play more than one tourney at a time..(like Deep Shredder or Fritz 11 or 12) There should be a "save tourney as" link so you know that the GUI is saving the tourneys...there should be a "load prior tourney" button...when the GUi crashes and you restart the program the original tourney is 100% BLANK and the only choice is "Start New"...thats no good...all the prior results seem to have been irretrievably lost somewhere in the Ether of The Banksia GUI!!..Seen this occur with Chess OK Gui on occasion also...HELP!! :)

It worked with UCI_Elo and UCI_LimitStrength via json modification. Tried Deuterium at Elo 1000 or around 100 nodes/move.

I would suggest to include these 2 options in the engine option box once the engine is installed for user convenience. Although it is prefixed with UCI it does not mean that the engine option box is a bad location to put these 2 options. The user can create an engine config which may use this UCI_LimitStrength/UCI_Elo option pair and can easily select such configuration. It is also possible to create a match or tournament where a UCI_Elo configured engine can be a participant with other engines without the UCI_LimitStrength limitation.

What equipment do you play tournaments on?

Can you tell me more? What is the "correct rating"? Compare to what? How BSG show that data? Thanks

There seems to be an issue also on fifty moves aside from the issue on repetition that was already reported by Guenther.

Thanks for the report and sorry to hear BSG crashes on your system. Can you help me by providing some more information:
- What is your system (computer CPU, cores, mem, OS)?
- What time control did you use?
- What are the engines you run your test? (list them here or attach the file banksiaengines.json)
