But where to put the GPUs?
There is always a rub.
Taking ideas is not a vice, it is a virtue. We have another word for this. It is called learning.
But sharing ideas is an even greater virtue. We have another word for this. It is called teaching.

I did a bit of browsing on SuperMicro's site. It seems like their GPU servers look like this: https://www.supermicro.com/en/products/ ... GP-TRT.cfm

8x NVidia GPUs, each using 16x PCIe lanes on a dual-socket Xeon. That's "too many PCIe lanes", so there's clearly some kind of PCIe-switch going on there. I don't think they got a GPU-server like this designed yet for EPYC however... EPYC 2 is probably too new.

Also in that server: 24x 2.5" drive slots + 2x NVMe slots for storage. Probably designed for 2.5" flash drives.

Cray is doing something to make "Frontier" (Oak-ridge National Labs). Frontier will be EPYC + AMD GPU based, but I haven't been able to find any details yet. I did email ORNL's media relations, and they said that the specific specifications are under NDA right now, so no point looking them up yet.
