Komodo 13.2.5 released

Post by lkaufman »

Komodo 13.2.5 has been released at komodochess.com. It is a free upgrade to all who bought or subscribed to 13.2, and will replace 13.2 for new purchasers. It is a much greater revision than is typical of bug-fix releases, hence the name. Here are the changes from 13.2:
1. Fixes a regression in 40/x type time controls that was an unintended by-product of an improvement to increment play in 13.2.
2. Actually improves the algorithm for repeating time controls over all earlier versions.
3. Has about 2 elo improvements that apply to all modes and time controls.
4. Fixes a couple minor bugs that don't affect elo.
5. Makes the Dynamism option work in MCTS mode.
6. Makes the Personalities utilyze the Dynamism option internally, making them more diverse.
7. Adds a new feature called "Auto Skill" which (when combined with Skill levels) will make Komodo automatically lower its skill level when it is winning and raise it when it is losing, with a reduction in average strength of nearly a class. This is not intended to be used with MCTS or with full strength (level 25) Komodo, so of course default is "off".

There is no need for testing done with increments on 13.2 to be redone, but we do recommend new testing for 40/x time controls. As compared with 13.1, there should be gains in the ballpark of ten elo with 40/x time controls in all modes and thread counts, perhaps 20 elo for MCTS on 8 or more threads.
Subscribers and those who purchased 13.2 should go to their accounts and re-download 13.2, and they should actually get 13.2.5.

Incoming Komodo 13.2.5.5 for next version in its way to Komodo 13.2.6. I guess this will delay Komodo 14 so MTCS Komodo remains a commercial exclusive for longer

Major number releases are based on calendar year with a major release in the spring to sync wth Chessbase's schedule. Assuming we have enough gain between now and then we would likely put out a Komodo 13.3 (perhaps even a 13.4). Just depends on the progress we make. Jumping to 13.2.5 was just meant to indicate it was a more significant release than a mere bug fix.

But it looks like a release less significant than if the jump was to 13.3.

That's correct. That's why it is free for purchasers of 13.2, and why we don't recommend re-testing for those who test with increments.

I am looking forward to the new version of the Android engine. When do you plan to publish Komodo 13.2.5?

I am looking forward to see a fusion of Komodo and Houdini team.
And we will have again 3 top engines.

Hmmm, I doubt that would help much. Robert Houdart is great at understanding open source code of others and improving it, but if he already understands Houdini's code better he may find it easier to provide a stronger engine based on Houdini 6 than on latest Komodo, and Komodo has gotten where's it at without Houdart's help, so I don't think either team needs the other.
