Attack testposition for wild engines?

Post by Eelco de Groot »

Related to a recent testposition. We know 1. h4 is not best, probably third best move. 1. Ng4 wins outright, and 1. Kh1 Kh8 promising, but if 1. h4, not every engine will find 1...Kh8 (to make way for Rg8) But now, does White still have some compensation for the Black extra pawn? As a human I would like to play Kh2 followed by Rh1, but Kaissa thinks that is not one of the best five. Still there is a slight plus if I let Kaissa think long enough. Is it right?

After this, the score drops again to below +1.00. So, is it just a draw?
Debugging is twice as hard as writing the code in the first
place. Therefore, if you write the code as cleverly as possible, you
are, by definition, not smart enough to debug it.

Hi Eelco,

Cfish-dev with 6-man tables:

0.00 1. Nxf5 exf5 2. Bxf5 Nf8 3. Qh6 Bc8 4. Bd3 Ra6 5. Qh5 Nd8 6. Be3 Qb7 7. Ng5 Bxg5 8. Bxg5 Rg6 9. Rf6 Qa7 10. Bxg6 fxg6 11. Qf3 Bf5 12. Qxd5 Nde6 13. Rf1 Nxg5 14. hxg5 Ne6 15. R1xf5 gxf5 16. Rxe6 Rxe6 17. Qxe6 Qxd4+ 18. Kh1 Qh4+ 19. Kg1 (depth 50, 0:23:37)

So looks like a draw.
