Here is a game where white (using 1.e4 e5 2.Qf3) at 2465 Elo plays black and 2184 Elo and gets spanked.

So my conclusion is that we can't draw any conclusion from a single game.
Taking ideas is not a vice, it is a virtue. We have another word for this. It is called learning.
But sharing ideas is an even greater virtue. We have another word for this. It is called teaching.

Taking ideas is not a vice, it is a virtue. We have another word for this. It is called learning.
But sharing ideas is an even greater virtue. We have another word for this. It is called teaching.

There's just no way 2.Qf3 is a good move. If it was then all of chess theory would need to be rewritten.

Dann Corbit wrote: Thu Jun 27, 2019 3:30 am Here is a game where white (using 1.e4 e5 2.Qf3) at 2465 Elo plays black a[t] 2184 Elo and gets spanked.

[Date "2007.06.24"]
[White "Dimitrov, Pavel"]
[Black "Kozarcanin, Sead"]
[Result "0-1"]

So my conclusion is that we can't draw any conclusion from a single game.
Yep. After 21...bxc4

[d]r3r1k1/p4pbp/1q3np1/2p1p1B1/2p1P3/2P2Q1P/PPB2PP1/3RR1K1 w - - 0 22

SF thinks White has an advantage of +1.85 (depth=31).

After 34....Nxa4

[d]1r4k1/4bp1p/6p1/pBp1p3/n3q3/2P1B2P/1P1RQPP1/6K1 w - - 0 35

SF's eval (depth=29) is
+2.89 35.Rd7 Bf8 36.Bc4 Nb6 37.Bxf7+ Kh8 38.Rc7 Bh6 39.Bb3 Bxe3 40.fxe3 Rf8 41.Rxc5 Qb1+ 42.Kh2 a4 43.Be6 Rf1 44.c4 e4 45.Rc6 Qd3 46.Qxd3 exd3 47.Rxb6 d2 48.Bg4 d1=R 49.Bxd1 Rxd1 50.c5 Rc1 51.c6 Kg7 52.Ra6 Kf7 53.Kg3 Rc2 54.Ra7+ Ke6

35.f3?? is the losing move.

White is so much stronger than Black that he outplays Black from an equal opening position, gets a winning position, and then makes a huge blunder to lose the game.

It's really hard to believe the Italian would be bad for white. White is up a tempo after all. As I see it the best line for black is to just play what Ding plays and play a5 instead of the usual a6 lines.

I always found funny how ppl can take mediocre games by some pathetic humans as a reference for something.
Essentially any correspondence game played before 2015 is crappier than what BF or LC0 can provide at 1min/move on strong hardware.
Huge databases are so irrelevant today. I understand that it's a hobby but putting so much importance on essentially useless things is just hopeless.

And yet Lc0 can be Tactically blind.
And yet SF can make opening blunders.
And these humans are roughly 2700.
The real problem here (for reference purposes) is that there are zero games between high end computer systems for this odd (1.e4 e5 2.Qf3 *) opening.

I agree with you that computers are better than people today. But that does not mean they cannot be the best available reference.
It is also true that no computer system is flawless yet.

Lc0 can be tactically blind but not about opening. And I specifically mentioned BF coz it is much stronger in opening than SF alone.
Problem is when it comes to unknown positions 2700 FIDE is useless. They are experimenting, fishing, looking for a surprise. Also, even if they play couple of moves correctly they'd soon start with blunders, much sooner than in known opening yielding any result totally useless.
If you really wanna explore the opening you need to play MC with strong engines and artificially introduce some randomness. There is really no other way.
