ChessTricks v5.4

Post by USGroup1 »

ChessTricks is a free and portable position analyzer gui for Windows with an emphasis on finding trick moves.

A trick is a move that is usually not the best move but if the opponent can’t find the only reply (refutation), it will result to an even better position than the best move. Analyzing these trick lines helps with finding traps and novelties and in some cases the only winning line (in positions where engine has a hard time finding the best move).

Requirements: 64-bit Windows System, .NET Framework 4.6.1 or later (If you are not on Windows 10 you need to update your .NET Framework)

Can you post an example position preferably in the opening where there is trick move?

Good program, Ng5 is not the best but not too bad either and when played on the board has only 1 good reply. It attacks the f7 pawn twice from Ba2 and the current Ng5. The f7 pawn can be defended in some ways, reasonable moves are Rf8, Re7 and d5. This also needs more analysis time to be sure that there is only 1 good reply to Ng5.

The suggested main line 18. Ng5 Rf8 19. Ndf3 ..., is this from playout (engine vs engine) or from the analysis pv?

That was just an example, and yes it's from the analysis pv.
