Problem configuring Stockfish in Scid vs PC for Linux

Post by Fguy64 »

Greetings. I have googled this problem and found several solutions, but none of them worked for me.

I am trying to install/configure Stockfish 10 in Scid vs PC 4.19 running on the latest version of Ubuntu.

in Scid vs PC I click on Tools, then Analysis Engines to get the Analysis Engines dialog. I then click on the New button to get the Configure Engine dialog.

Here I have tried several different combinations in the Command and Directory fields, each time leaving the Parameters field blank.

Each time, when I click on the configure button to configure the UCI parameters, I get a message titled "Error starting UCI engine" the message says "Unable to start program" followed by the path to the Stockfish Executable.

Is there someone here with similar software who can help with this?

Try giving the Stockfish file permission to execute.

While I'm here, I'll point you in the direction of the original Scid, recently updated: http://scid.sourceforge.net/

Thanks Marek. Giving the file permission to execute solved the problem.
