Syzygy are the most popular, so more engines can use them.
If you have an engine that needs GTB or EGBB files, then get those also.
If you have enough disk, you may as well get them all. Don't forget Nalimov.
I am waiting on pins and needles for the Syzygy distance to mate files (which have not been released, nor the generator yet).
Taking ideas is not a vice, it is a virtue. We have another word for this. It is called learning.
But sharing ideas is an even greater virtue. We have another word for this. It is called teaching.

If you want to try many engines and/or make matches between them, download them all. Otherwise, syzygy is the best in many aspects, 5 men is the easiest one to get.

Take a look their brief information:

https://banksiagui.com
The most features chess GUI, based on opensource Banksia - the chess tournament manager

Arena can use Gaviota TB's for adjudication. This is handy if you enjoy engine vs. engine matches. Houdini 1.5a -- the only free Houdini -- supports Gaviota only. The Nalimov TB's are still used by some engines, e.g. Hiarcs and Crafty.

So I suggest getting them all. If that's not an option, go with Syzygy.

Newer Crafty versions (25.1 and later) support Syzygy tablebases, not Nalimov
