Wonderful game by LC0 today in TCEC

Post by Guenther »

First blocking completely the Kingside with advanced pawns and fixing the Black King,
then fixing the centre, after this fighting for the open a-file and installing a deadly N on d6 and
finally a King walk from g2 to b2.
Black bishops remained distant observers for most of the game.

Fire was so blind of white's positional advantages in this game to the point that it had +2.5 eval to Leela's +31.5 eval at some point in this game. The position was materialistically equal, but the eval disparity was so big it was funny seeing how Leela outplayed Fire positionally throughout the game. Awesome match.

"Erdo" on playchess has been using LC0 recently. Here is one recent game:

I could not tell where White went wrong. But I did notice at move 25, Stockfish 10 seems to think White has a considerable advantage, while at least to my weak human eyes that is not so:

[d]r5rk/1pp1n1qn/3pbp2/p3p1pp/P2PP1P1/2P1PN1P/1PB3QB/R4R1K w - - 0 25

By the time Black had Rooks doubled on the h file, White was in trouble.

Cfish-dev identifies 38. b3 as much better than Kd1. With the king on d1, White cannot play Qf3 as a response to Qd7, and simply loses the pawn on g4.
