Advance chess

Post by Sergei S. Markoff »

Wikipedia suggests that chess engines are now stronger than centaur (human + engine) players (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advanced_ ... ite_note-7).

"Computer chess engine Zor won the freestyle 2017 Ultimate Challenge tournament. The best human plus computer came in 3rd place. In 2017, chess computer engines are superior to human plus computers.[7]"

This claim is based on this link: http://www.infinitychess.com/Page/Publi ... spx?id=322 [ridiculously this link is blocked for all Russian IPs, so I'm already guilty, haha]

BTW, it looks not so obvious for me. At first there are no engine called "Zor". " It all went in favour of Zor (United Arab Emirates), who celebrated his greatest victory with his engine Cryptic Heroes" — so the engine is probably "Cryptic heroes". But did it played w/o human? Or this is just reincarnation of zorchamp (human + Hydra engine in 2006)? Here [http://www.infinitychess.com/Page/Publi ... spx?id=118] we can see ""Cryptic" most successful against centaurs", but it says only that "Cryptic heroes" is good vs centaurs but not Zor is "Cryptic heroes" alone.

Please help me to verify original claim.

Zor is the nick of a computer using their own "Cryptic" engine. Akhtar was another stand alone engine player, using the same engine. Allegedly, neither was run by them (organisers) but both used their engine and are UAE based, so you can reach your own conclusions easily.

I've already edited that part and am currently combing though the rest, as there're other inaccuracies.
