Pauline...why do they let engines like that play? It makes it hard to take the event seriously when something like that is so weak.

Hiarcs just lost against Boot. It's endgame play is very bad. It played with it rook back and forth loosing tempo and allowed Boot for counter chances...
You must have seen a completely different game. The endgame was always lost and Hiarcs already had to sac a piece to no avail.
May be you mean the middlegame? Booot simply had a strong K-side attack with h4-h5! which led to a won endgame and the counterplay
on the Q-side by Hiarcs was too slow...
Yes that was definitely a middlegame issue. HIARCS seemed very slow to see the danger and dithered on the Q-side IMO. Moves like 21...c4 and some of the major piece shuffling wasted too much time. Well played by Booot though.

followed jonny-hiarcs up to this point; i believe it'll draw but j has 2:1 time odds. kibitzed by leela/SFdev (7 july), unedited; 2 variations that aren't a waste of time are the early e5 idea (if not there, somewhere) & the move 27 variation, which was basically a SF-lc0 shootout; SF was >+2 but leela stared it down without flinching; kept waiting to see the eval soar when leela realized what hit her.

It's a draw now I think but that was a very close shave for HIARCS. I think Jonny missed 2 or 3 wins in that game.

No. Final setup for DGT and other broadcasting boards is that the arbiter places Kings on certain squares to show the result...

I have a new predictor for determining how this tournament will go: how many moves it takes each engine to beat Pauline!

So far Chiron comes first with 16 moves. HIARCS currently last at 26 moves.
:D

Pauline is like some kind of weird side-show...
