do you have a link to that suite kai? if it's private no worries.

i believe it's just saturation & if the next reduction goes as supposed they'll be at or past A0's relative mark. i think deepmind did their 2nd reduction around ~7M games; this one's just passed it. it may come any minute but it wouldn't surprise me if it's tomorrow. or a reset. probably nothing would surprise me, tbh.

from what i could tell with a roughly 1:1 SF8:A0 node ratio & using deepmind's openings (upon which all games & thus A0's rating were established, afaik) the stronger nets may already be close to = at equivalent of 1s/move @ 70MN/s & 80kn/s respectively. at 40/10 (which would avg, on my config, a bit more than a second/move) i actually had lc0 better, but need to see more games.

What do you mean by the bolded bit? Close to equal to what?

= to SF8 when scaled in such a way as to simulate deepmind testing. but there's so much noise in the games that lead to that comment it's little more than a guess; as far as results go i can only say w/ certainty that i saw a higher overall score head to head w/ SF8 than i have with any previous net at any TC & any opening set; the point i buried was that the next LR reduction should see it achieve equality at (equivalent of) 1s/move if it's to keep pace with A0, & that i believe it will.

and thanks kai!

Could you give the positions you have doubts about too, please ?
Why not replace them?

I had them somewhere, but the pool is murky, it's just an estimation, one could say that 50 are wrong, if he relies solely on current day engines. I do not rely very much on engines for opening test-suite.

About those 15 I suspect to be wrong. It's just a number and it's very tricky to eliminate them. The latest versions if Komodo and Stockfish solve about 170 positions at some very long 20 minutes/position on 4 threads. But not all are the same positions, intersecting the lots combined with doubtful database picks, I have a pool of maybe 30-40 suspicious positions. I do not want to over-analyze the test-suite with engines because, being mostly the same paradigm engines, they can be all wrong, and I will eliminate actually good and hard solutions. But I cannot rely entirely on database statistics of human and computer games in huge databases too. I will show a simple example of how there are some ambiguities appearing in choosing best moves from databases:

move1: 200 games showing 65% performance against 2500 Elo opposition
move2: 6 games showing 80% performance against 2550 Elo opposition
rest of the moves: hundreds of games showing 55% or lower performance against 2450 Elo opposition.

In this case, I would have to check when those 6 games of move2 were played, is it a novelty, are they played by strong players, and maybe even to check the games themselves. 6 is too small a sample to reach anything conclusive, the performance is actually 80% +/- 30 %, and I would have to ponder whether to pick both move1 and move2 as solutions or just move1. In this case, if I find nothing special about the games of move2 (known novelty or such), I would rather go for more robust statistic of move1 as the sole solution. And this is the simplest example, there are many issues, for example differences between 2-3 databases, computer games versus human games, etc. I rely for openings mostly on large databases of human games. And I wouldn't over-analyze with engines, as STS suite seems to be over-analyzed by Rybka, having a systematic bias, and wrong solutions considered correct by Rybka for Rybka reasons.

So knowing which exactly 15 positions are wrong is impossible to me, and if I start eliminate arbitrarily out of the pool of 30-40 positions, I might eliminate some very hard and good solutions, which current day engines are unable to solve. All in all, I suspect I have about 15 very hard solutions and 15 wrong solutions, without knowing which are which. That is, if opening theory stands as it is now, and A0 won't rewrite it. If A0 on hardware and time control from the paper solves 180/200, I would be very happy with my suite, and this would mean that opening theory as we know it still stands.

ID10086: 126/200
ID10104: 116/200
That's a real bad regression as for my pov.

At CSS forum a user reported with net 494 at 5"/move on 2x GTX 1080, as best result here a while ago, 168/200:

http://forum.computerschach.de/cgi-bin/ ... #pid113947

That's still 2 positions less than old Crafty24, but now 116/200 only again with latest net is simply disappointing.
The ID508 at 10''/move on GTX 1060 has a good result of 163/200 too. That 2x GTX 1080 is about 4 times faster than my GTX 1060, so his effective time control is 20''/move on my hardware. So, still good tactical results, significantly better than ID395. But positionally, ID508 comes significantly below ID395. All in all, ID508 seems a bit stronger than ID395 in games against AB engines, not by much and within error margins.

I have a about 1/2 different moves chosen as the best move due to analysis (see the first move of the pv) compared to your choices (see field c3).
I do not know if they are really better. As a suggestion, I would consider pasting the first move of these pv's onto your suggested bm list for those that you are not sure about.
