It seems like the reason for the stunt has become clear, to take away AMD's celebration the day after:

There are reports that Intel needed phase-change cooling and some have speculated heat could be up to 1KW, though presumably that's a guess.

Still the Intel 28 core will be quite a bit quicker than the AMD 32 core.

Hope fully Threadripper 2 will be around the same price point as the original Threadripper. This would mean you can get a 32 core system for ~$4k, maybe less.

I was able to build my original 1950x system for ~2.5K.

But I do not have / use a GPU, and I already had the hard drives.

I would be surprised if they are the same price point... but if they are I'm going to be awfully tempted to buy another.

Ryzen threading/hyperthreading is very good in my experience -- works wonders for running games in parallel for testing.

Any news of PEXT / BMI2 fixes ?

Engines don't scale past 16 cores. I will settle for a 5 GHZ 16 core with new architecture.
