Hi,

www.amateurschach.de & www.playwitharena.com are the own domains.

Split in times I gave up my work around Arena!
After this one I gave my older domain "www.playwitharena.com" to Michael Diosi.
But the mail adresses should run over the main domain ... www.amateurschach.de!

Let me look on hostix server:
Yes, mail address from martin is active, never I made changes here!

Try this one ...
Same mail adress but without the family name / surname.
The first name "forename" @ and the name of domain "playwitharena.com"

Martin used in times we had daily contacts I believe an yahoo adress also.
But I forgot the address!

Best and good luck!
Frank

I have tried to contact Martin.Blume@playchesswitharena.de but the email doesn't work. Maybe also Tim Mann of Winboard could be easily fix this bugs. It isn't an abandonware because they are developing more recent beta versions for Linux.
No one can fix anything on Arena except Martin Blume himself, as the source code of Arena was never released under any license.

Tim Mann has left computer chess more than 20 years ago, and has on many occasions made it very clear that he has zero intention to ever return to it.

Thank you Frank, you are a chess engines myth for me :)
I have just sent to him this message using martinblume@playwitharena.com and the address has been accepted :)

Hi!

Thank you for Arena Chess, I use it every day on Windows 10!

Despite the fact that it has some bugs (games suddenly restart and sometimes it ask me if I want to save incomplete game or not, also if I have unchecked the option) it is still absolutely my preferred chess GUI (I have tried also Fritz, Hiarcs Chess Explorer, Shredder chess, Cutechess, BangsiaGui and Xboard)

In particular the tournament management is fantastic! You can add and remove engines without losing all previous results, and you have 1 | 0 | = individual results for each engine, differently from all other programs.

Please, continue this project fixing remaining bugs or ask to other skilled programmers to
complete it because it is the best program for all chess engines fans!

Thank you again,
Best regards

I am sure Martin will get to work immediately, now you have given him the idea that bugs should be fixed.

Why are you making such a big deal out of this cross table, btw? It just seems a normal ascii cross table, very similat to what hgtbl.exe (included in the ChessLive! broadcasting package) would produce. There exist many tools to convert PGN files to cross tables. And it seems totally trivial to program something that would produce output like this.

 and while he's at it, maybe he could finally fix Chess960 support that's completely broken in Arena.

:D
Was mainly to thank him since it is my preferred hobby, but ...never say never again. (no I'm not Bond, James Bond 8-) )

Ok I know, but on Arena I can have it with 1 simple click. Now I try hgtbl.exe together with BanksiaGui png files (completely personalized to look like Arena  ) But with it, every time I add or remove an engine, I must restart the whole tournament... I test all the engines found on the web always keeping only the top 32.

Just downloaded http://hgm.nubati.net/ChessLive.zip ...Sigh, it doesn't work on Windows 10 ARM64 :(

Hi there,

maybe I should try to contact Martin Blume.
But if I start to work again with Martin it seems that is a lot of work after so many years.

Thinking on my old idea-list ... most are not inside and it seems that different bugs must be fixed.

We are 15 years older as in our best times.
No information what Martin do today.
At first, I hope Martin is OK.

In case of Arena Open-Source made sense.
I am not the open-source fan but in this case others can try to improved the sources.
Same if I compare with ChessBrainVB if an other programmer are working on LarsenVB or Igel.
Such Open Source projects I like a lot.

Delphi code (with the free version of Delphi, today for sure very old).

Better if others try to made the software better.
I believe today I have not the power as in younger years.

Next week I will search in older mail backups the yahoo address from Martin.
Most important person is Martin Blume but I believe I know his answer.

But it can be interesting to give the sources free.

Best
Frank

WinBoard allows replacement of an engine in a tournament with or without replay of the games it already had to its name, doesn't it? (The 'Replace engine' vs 'Upgrade Engine' buttons.) And keeping all games the engine wasn't involved in. What you cannot do is alter the number of participants to a tournament. But that doesn't seem possible in principle, e.g. for a round robin. It would completely mess up the rounds pairing schedule.
