When you are looking for a mate, Tal will help!

OpenTal gets this very quickly with a depth of 32 in the search. Chestuci is also very quick.

BTW both MateFinder 9 and Stockfish 9 now miss "mate the royal couple" 11 mover. They want to play 1.e3 resulting mate in 12. At least some older versions found 11x with 1.e4 easily.

MateFinder is clearly one of the best mate solvers around and it may be the very best for some complicated checkmates.

Yes, it is.

There will always be examples where tool X is better than tool Y, but for general purpose mates deeper than 9 plies I think that it is better than the alternatives.
Taking ideas is not a vice, it is a virtue. We have another word for this. It is called learning.
But sharing ideas is an even greater virtue. We have another word for this. It is called teaching.

Yes, I've seen this thing with previous versions sometimes too.

With multi-pv, SF reports 1.Nc3 is mate in 11 as well. I hope it's not a bug :

Current SF could not solve it in some hours. One thread, slow computer.
Kind regards

Almost two days, and SF-dev (1 thread) still hasn't found the mate in 5. In fact, this search has taken so long that this SF-dev is no longer the current SF-dev!

probably it saw the mate last night but decided not to show it because other engines would lough and die by this joke, these guys are the only sparring partners after all ;-)
