I guess this is not off topic since it is in the poll, lol. On Dec 20,21 every year the southern tip of Argentina receives 17+ hours of continuous daylight. On the flat earth model that is absolutely impossible. And yet on a spherical earth it is not only possible it is expected and observed. .

Day and night cycles are easily explained on a flat earth. The sun moves in circles around the North Pole. When it is over your head, it's day. When it's not, it's night. The light of the sun is confined to a limited area and its light acts like a spotlight upon the earth. The picture below illustrates how the sun moves and also how seasons work on a flat earth. It has always been because the whole point of the anecdote was that the king did not control the tide (cf. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/King_Canute_and_the_tide ). I mean, how would any king have commanded the US Navy anyway?

what I meant was that it is commonly believed that the story was recorded in the 12th century, but since there were no tides then as there was no usa navy. it must be that the usa planted the false dating.
