Bigler, I tried different cash sizes, as follows.

Conditions:
- MacMini i5@2.6 GHz
- Stockfish 8 bmi2 for mac with 2 threads
- ChessX GUI for mac
- Start position

This is what I got:
16 kb: 2:45 mins to d30.
16 Mb: 3:11 mins to d25 and I stopped there.
64 Mb: crash at d26.
1 Gb: crash at d22.

Now, I'm not an expert but in my case it seems that filling cache does affect NPS performance, so unless I'm doing serious long term analysis, I usually stick with SF default cache size (16 kb). You might just be experiencing the same, as you've set a high cache value. But it may also come from some setting in memory access yes.

I posted this on another thread by mistake, sorry.
This is the right thread I intended to post.

Bigler,
could you do me a favor?
Donwload and install to the default folder (c:\profound) the following:
https://sites.google.com/view/deep-profound
Start the program, You may have to switch to the english language.
Go to the cpus button and select 16 cpus, click ok.
Then click "Meditate", it will stop at about 150million nodes since it's a demo version. Could you send me the KNs after the analisys is finished?
Or even better do Alt + Print Screen and send me the main window picture to:
deep.profound@gmail.com
I'm really curious about those KNs.

best regards,
Alvaro

Hmmm... so Threadripper doesn't give much advantage over Ryzen.
I was considering upgrading but now I won't.
Money saved. Thanks.

Problem solved!

Thanks all for your help.

FYI - Threadripper must be in quad channel to provide full performance!

Great..when you have time can you run asmFish 2017-05-22 pop & bmi2 with bench 1024 32 26 to have a compare in Ipman's list..

Thanks, and enjoy your new system

Problem was too high so using memory in quad channel only could not solve it alone.....
What is about the type of Windows 10?

It seems it was "simply" that.

Another guy had exactly the same pattern perf than me.
So IT "experts" seem to agree that its known that Threadripper must be in quad channel for full performance.

See the following link:
http://www.overclock.net/t/1636655/x399 ... t_26312425

I have spent many hours changing many parameters with no changes in kn/s.
Additing RAM to go from dual channel to quad changed it all.

That is you state the type of Windows 10 has no any effect to the performance of Threadripper??
For YOUR PC you would be the "expert", I think. If it is not the case you ought to buy a complete PC assembled by experts.
As there is no curing of distance so there is no repair of distance, too.
Moreover you give very few information about your system. Threadripper is only one part of a PC and a memory has more important parameters than the type of the channel number...

Threadripper produces about two times more nodes and about 40 more Elo than Ryzen 7 1800x.
It is worth to you or not you know alone.

YEA!!!

Perhaps you could run some chess benchmarks using different memory speeds and timings? Increase the latency, use a higher frequency divider, etc.
