I hope it will be as much for chess computing ......now Intel is making an even bolder claim: They're actually 40 percent speedier.
Intel's eighth-gen CPUs will be more powerful than we though

Amazing - we haven't seen any significant chip speed improvement for the last seven years. Then recently AMD launches Ryzen and all of a sudden Intel pulls a 40% faster chip out of nowhere.
I'm not complaining but I wonder if Intel has been holding back innovation for the last few years.

Horrible for most everything, but especially chess.
These are downclocked by 600 Mhz, and the cores doubled from 2 to 4. It is all marketing hype-- Intel claims "productivity" increase, and engaget writes "speedier".

I am skeptical. There is something I don't like about the 2.6 ghz base speed. The only way I will buy Intel for chess now is if they are twice as good than AMD. Then I would pay the extra money.

My wish list is bigger L1 caches because its very good for chess. Intel has be stuck with 32kb for ages.
