I tested your Stockfish in such position

It works great. Houdini 5 works with the saving hash-file function as well.

Analysis by Stockfish 250717 64 POPCNT:

but when I tried to use AsvFish 2017-07-10 and Komodo 11.01 they don't catch the winning variation after loading hash-file. Why it occurs?
Hi Alex,

Komodo and AsmFishW have the save/load hashes option, but their hashes don't persist very much. It happens that valuable entries are overwritten after few time. I tested them only few minutes, and I'm not sure...

We should hope Mark Lefler and Lyudmil Antonov read this post and write a reply.

New idea for hashes

Post by Rodolfo Leoni » Mon Jul 31, 2017 4:23 pm

I was thinking about hash size, which often needs to be huge. If it's possible to "prune" them depending by entries depth we could get lesser file size.

What about a "Prune to Min depth X" or a "Prune to Max size Y MBs"? Or, maybe, an "and" condition for those options?

Step 1: Infinite search, 1 GB empty hashes.

Step 2: On infinite analysis, 1 GB hashes, I "navigated" the variations, old style move. Then I saved hashes, I closed/restarted the GUI, I loaded hashes and here's what happened.

It's not only the fact it has been faster. The most relevant fact (and most important for a chess player) is that score got propagated. This gives a player an indication of a more precise value of a position.

It's the savehash. It can work as persistent hash too, but with some limitations.

two questions:
what are the limitations compared to other engines?
And should I analyze with multi-variations (f.e.: 4 ) or only one?

Not compared to other engines, rather than to other persistent hashes systems. Usually, you have the main hash dedicated to search, and a PH system (if any) as an additional hash. See Critter, Spike, and other "learning" files as examples. Here, the system uses the main hashes in infinite mode only. You can understand the engine would probably be weakened if their hashes are always full when on standard games. Besides, it takes much ore time to encode an additional hash system and we should think programmers have their priorities.

For the second question, you should do your experience. I often use multiPV when I look for alternatives, then I switch to single PV for a deeper search.

On four CPUs I have achieved such result whithout saving the hash-file.

That's quite interesting. It discards 24. ..Bh6 in favor of 24. ..Rb8. I analyzed that PV line some years ago (until 31.Qxg6) and I concluded white is much better than 1.17. Engine probably sees black in troubles after 24. ..Bh6 25.Qxb4 Rxh6 26.Bd7+ Kd8 27.Rxe5 dxe5 28.a4
