Post by Elorejano »

Hi!
Frank or others: can you upload the ini file of gandalf 7 beta?
For to use as a winboard engine.
Moreover, seems that are problems with the book..
Thanks in advance

Hi Carlos,

I will give it a look on weekend or faster Carlos.
I have to install Winboard (not installed so far after a new configuration of my PCs start of the year). So it's a little bit work for myself.

But maybe others can help in this case?!
This would be great ... I have a hard week here with my professional work and for such things saturday time.

As soon as possible ... the American's would like to say. The German's would like to say ... "Versuche es so schnell wie möglich, Ostern kam dieses Jahr irgendwie total überraschend um die Ecke und ich hänge mit allem zurück".

Best
Frank

But ... nice to read you again!

Hi, I can help you with some Infos:
1) from Gandalf 6 readme:
Gandalf works as both CP-native engine and UCI and winboard.

Native + UCI : Info found in the GUI.

Winboard
----------------------------------------------

gandalf60 takes the parameter "xboard" and works then like a winboard engine
E.g. the fcp parameter should look like -fcp "...\gandalf60.exe xboard"

The resource file gandalf60wb.res :

LEARNING 1 <------ Enables Learning
DRAW 6 50 <------ Accepts draw after 6 moves within CONTEMPT and move 50 have been made
CONTEMPT 0 <------ Contempt factor in centipawns (here 0.00)
RESIGN 7 6 <------ resign if score is worse than 7.00 and has been for the last 6 moves
TB c:\TB <------ EGTB path
BOOKPATH c:\gan60 <------ PAth to opening book dbchs.dat
STYLE 0 <------ 0=normal 1=gambit
HASH 200 <------ Hash-memory in MB (values extended from 16 to 1600 Mb)
TBCACHE 8 <------ EGTB cache.

another example Gandalf60wb.res:
LEARNING 0
DRAW 6 50
CONTEMPT 0
RESIGN 7 6
TB c:\Chess\nalimov
BOOKPATH c:\Chess\Arena\Engines\wb\gandalf
HASH 56
TBCACHE 4

Gandalf4.res
LEARNING 1
DRAW 6 50
CONTEMPT 0
RESIGN 7 6
TB c:\winboard\gandalf\tb
BOOKPATH c:\winboard\gandalf
HASH 32
TBCACHE 8

for Chessbase Gandalf_4.32f.init
[Parameter]
CommandLine = nodebug xfritz xboard
Engine = Gandalf 4.32f
Author = Suurballe/Wulff, Denmark
Debug = False

[Support]
AnalyzeMode = True
PonderMode = True
CastleAndEP = False

Of course Gabor is right and you need the exact name of the res file for every Gandalf version.

For the Gandalf 7 beta it is:

Code: Select all

deepgandalf7wb.res

Well, still I get a stalemate message in the first move...

Downloading it again I see that the content is named 'uci_deep-gandalf7-beta', may be it cannot be used as WB at all?

Also the book file extension is named '.bdf', when in the past it was named '.dat'.
The strange thing though is that there is a book updater exe too (I deduct this from the batch file content),
which seems to patch '.new', '.org' or '.bdf' files into 'dat' files. So the '.bdf' is not the final book format?

I tried to patch the file with older '.dat' files but that does not work.

BTW the given '.bdf' book also does not work in UCI mode, but if I add
an older '.dat' file it works!

I can confirm the stalemate mess.
Which will be the right name for the .res file?

I posted already the right name for the res file. ('deepgandalf7wb.res')
Also that you need to take a previous book with '.dat' extension.

The conclusion though is, nothing can help you in this case,
because this Gandalf 7 version seems to be UCI only.
Just run it as UCI in WB.
