There is something called "marketing" and they're referring to the TCEC Rapid results (Houdini won).

In my little tournament Houdini 5 is also leading in front of
Komodo and stockfish and shredder.
What seems like a fairy tale today may be reality tomorrow.
Here we have a fairy tale of the day after tomorrow....

not entirely rigth, but close.

the 3 tops are almost on par, though SF is still a bit ahead.

I would have written one of the 3 strongest engines in the world, which certainly would be more correct.

It's not just a little bit ahead. Stockfish is at least 30 ELO stronger. And those green patches just keep on coming. Implying that Houdini is the strongest engine in the world is undoubtedly inaccurate. But it is still an awesome engine - and super strong.

And Komodo 10.2 lags way behind...

Yes but those informed understand that it meant nothing.

Just wait a little bit, they will catch up as soon as they can steal and copy some more. :)

People who win the WMCCC put "World Champion" on their box.

Houdini is the strongest tactical solver in the world, without a doubt.
Taking ideas is not a vice, it is a virtue. We have another word for this. It is called learning.
But sharing ideas is an even greater virtue. We have another word for this. It is called teaching.

The advertisement wording is perfectly legal taken in the context it is used.

Code: Select all

"The preliminary release version of Houdini 5 won convincingly ahead of all other top programs in the recent “TCEC Season 9 Rapid” tournament, scoring 56 point from 62 games (50 wins and 12 draws). The final release of Houdini 5 surpasses even this performance by another 30 Elo points, making it currently the strongest program in the world."
The way this is worded is called "puffing". It uses a statement in fact - Houdini won blah, blah, and then expresses the opinion of the seller which may be a slight exaggeration. There is no basis for a false advertising lawsuit. If it had not won the blah , blah blah , but had stated it won blah , blah, blah , there would be a basis for a lawsuit.

Well, if it won the latest TCEC Rapid, this seems a fully justified claim. Evenan idiot would understand that claims of this nature are a 'snapshot', and cannot be valid forever.

The 'regular' TCEC seems to have very little relevance for the average user anyway. Which fraction of those would have 20-core machines?
