Armed with the powerful SF 8 and a bit of intuition, I just discovered that at least half of theoretical openings are not playable by black.
Any gambit, played by black, is almost certainly incorrect. The Benko/Volga is lost, the Budapest is lost, etc.
Many other defences also are most certainly lost: the Alekhine is lost, the mainline KID is most probably lost, the Scandinavian is most probably lost, etc.
It proves that, while white can play almost any first move, apart from g4, black should be extremely careful, as many replies are simply very dangerous or losing.
Any comments on the above?

i saw your post in the other thread & tried the budapest with komodo; i dont know how deep your searches were but K gives this position [d]rnbqkb1r/pppp1ppp/8/4P3/2P1P1n1/8/PP3PPP/RNBQKBNR b KQkq e3 0 4
roughly ~.15 centipawns for white after a few minutes, are you sure you arent perhaps jumping the gun?

certainly not, 6.a3 or 6.Nf3 are much better than 6.Be3 (why allow b4 check with doubled isolated pawns?)yanquis1972 wrote:i saw your post in the other thread & tried the budapest with komodo; i dont know how deep your searches were but K gives this position [d]rnbqkb1r/pppp1ppp/8/4P3/2P1P1n1/8/PP3PPP/RNBQKBNR b KQkq e3 0 4

SF reaches above 100cps, but only in some 20 moves with occasional tip-offs from me, just to correct positional play.

In Sicilian Najdorf Rauzer after the moves: 1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 d6 3. d4 cxd4 4. Nxd4 Nf6 5. Nc3 a6 6. Bg5 e6 7. f4
[d]rnbqkb1r/1p3ppp/p2ppn2/6B1/3NPP2/2N5/PPP3PP/R2QKB1R b KQkq f3 0 7[/d]
7... b5 (Polugaevsky variant) and 7... Nc6 are losing.
The best black move is 7...Qb6 and if 8. Qd2 (Poisoned Pawn) it is a draw in all variants examined.

I agree with your observation. When creating the Fishbook opening book, I encountered this seemingly anomalous pattern where the Sicilian, King's Indian, Scandinavian, Alekhine, Pirc, French and other less known defenses, have very low winning percentage for black.
This can be validated when the Cerebellum chess book together with Brainfish is used where it never make the above opening first moves as its primary moves.

Cerebellum makes only certain moves because it is a limited light version.drj4759 wrote:I agree with your observation. You have to pay if you want to know more about moves that work and you
have to wait until it is released.

Re: Time to revise modern theory
good point, namesake , there are many losing Sicilian lines, the existence of a theoretical line does not mean it is sound. In the Sicilian though, there are many good black defences too, though rare, and that is why 1...c5 is best reply on 1.e4.lantonov wrote:In Sicilian Najdorf Rauzer after the moves: 1. e4 c5 2. I guess, from the main systems, Sveshnikov is either lost, or very close to.
