That's unfortunate, iPhone X has the same processor as the iPhone 8. It appears that you processor was either being throttle due to heat or you had processes running in the background.

And a fast 845 Snapdragon cpu.

Pocophone started fast with over 5259 peak and throttled to 4559 after 120 seconds thinking with its 8 cores.

Hi mclane,

which ROM do you use on your Pocophone? Global or Xiaomi.eu ROM? MIUI 9 oder 10?

Have you tried the MIUI Game Speed Booster seetings. It's a builtin feature of MIUI and offers many settings to optimize gaming performance (http://en.miui.com/thread-1089598-1-1.html)

Did you measure with the Stockfish engine from the Droidfish package?

I'm very interested in the Pocophone. I would be very grateful if you could help me with my purchase decision. Would it be possible for you to repeat the test for a longer duration such as 10 minutes to rule out thermal throttling issues?

Many Thanks :)

Yes the benchmark in android devices is always measured with an UNCHANGED droidfish.
The hash tables shall NOT be changed and the test should be done in analysis mode.

Miui is 9.6.22.0
With game booster ON it is 4761.
That’s not a big change, isn’t it ?!

Yes, there's no big difference. But this could also be an indicator for a well tuned MIUI. I suppose that you ve killed background processes before taking the initial measurement. That's one thing that MIUI game booster does for you automatically ...

I have now also ordered a Pocophone F1 and I'm very curious if I can confirm your numbers :D

My current smartphone is a MIUI A1 with 4 gb ram. The snapdragon 625 has 8 cores with identical clock rates. There is no big.LITTLE architecture yet.

Measured with 8 threads it starts with 2810 kn/s and after 2 minutes it reached 2750 kn/s. After further 20 minutes is was near 2700. And also in my daily analyzing sessions I hat not seen any throttling effects :D

I find that's very impressive for a Android One phone with a price of only 189,- euros in Germany.

Pocophone started fast with over 5259 peak and throttled to 4559 after 120 seconds thinking with its 8 cores.

So, now I have my Pocophone F1 too. But the results are unfortunately very disappointing. And just as I have experienced it with the Xiaomi Mi 8 (also with Snapdragon 845):

Poco started with over 5000 kn/s. But after only 1 minute it's below 4000 kn/s, and after 2 minutes it's below 3000 kn/s. And unfortunately that is not the end yet. After 10 minutes it stocks at around 2300 kn/s. Oh man, that's even worse than my low budget Mi A1 with Snapdragon 625.

The interesting thing ist that it's the same behavior as with the above mentioned Xiaomi Mi 8. My guess is that the big.LITTLE architecture of the modern Snapdragon 845 plays against performance here and that we don't get all 8 cores at one time?! Or that other battery optimizations intervene?!

I tested with Droidfish with 8 threads and without any other customizations. I tested all combinations of reducing background processes in developer options, battery saving options, MIUI game speed optimizations, etc. The result is always the same ...

Dear Snapdragon 845 owners, are you really sure that your great measurements are correct? After testing this two 845 flagships I cannot believe anymore that this cpu is really suitable for long running chess sessions

Do you have any idea what I could have done wrong???

Otherwise I will return the Poco F1 with a heavy heart and continue to use my Xiaomi Mi A1 with Snapdragon 625 and constant 2700 kn/s (with CFish even 3000 kn/s after 20 minutes) ...
