Hello ,
is an implementation of the formats ChessBase (.ctg) and Arena (.abk) possible into Scid http://scid.sourceforge.net/ respectively Scid vs. PC http://scidvspc.sourceforge.net/ ?
If yes, can .abk / .ctg be converted into .bin-files with Scid/Scid vs. PC?
examples of opening books:
.abk ~ https://sites.google.com/site/numptyche ... ning-books
.ctg ~ http://www.rybkachess.com/index.php?auswahl=Downloads
Best wishes,
Norbert

as far as I know SCID only supports polyglot books (usually *.bin)

If a format is well documented implementing it in Scid is certainly possible.
And if it can be read it can be converted in all the other formats (but the exporting format may not include all the informations).
However I do not understand why users may desire to use them in Scid.
Chessbase 9 (the last version I owned, I do not know about newer ones) was super slow at position searching. A "Tree Book" was a nasty attempt to fix that problem, but you cannot seriously study an opening without looking at the complete games.
Even with databases containing millions of games Scid can search a position and calculate the statistics almost in realtime. I personally never encountered a situation when i desired to use a binary book.
