Wow, it's fast!!

Scid 4.3 took 16 seconds to open my database. Version 4.6.4 takes a second!

How about tree browsing? It was already quite fast under Windows, if it gets any faster, it will simply leave Chessbase in the dust.

The new version uses multiple cores; the old version was single core.

On my Intel Core Duo L7500 machine, opening a *.si4 database with 5.25 million games I timed the following sequence: click 'tree' icon, click most popular move (for 4 ply).

Scid 4.3.0 took 71 seconds
Scid 4.6.4 took 33 seconds

I'm sorry for this late reply, but this post was brought to my attention only today.
It's important do "compact" old databases (Database->Maintenance-> Compact Database) to achieve maximum performances.
After that, your test should take less than a second.

Request: Board Sounds

When I enable sound, I can hear the moves announced. Can the option for board sounds (Moves and Captures) only be added?

Whenever I'm importing games, and the game file (.sg4) gets to the 2 GB limit, there's a write error, and the creation of the DB is halted. This happens well before si4's maximum number of games (16,777,214) is reached.
