For fans of old chess computers

Post by F.Huber »

Hi,

some time ago we have already talked about my CB-Emu program, which emulated about 40 old Mephisto chess computers.
Now there's a new extented version with 40 additional emulations of Fidelity devices.

If anyone is interested - here's the full package:
http://www8.zippyshare.com/v/uKgVNf8b/file.html

And here todays small update with a new feature (only the EXE):
http://www106.zippyshare.com/v/Ljyxh1f9/file.html

Manuals for all these old chess computers can be found on Alain Zanchetta's website:
http://www.zanchetta.net/
(just click on 'Documentations')

Regards,
Franz

Hi:
Great job, but after examining some of the machines, there are some bugs. Sometimes a piece transform in a pawn, other the engine give pieces, etc. Champion english is one of them.

Thank you Franz!

On Ed Schröder's site he has a download for UCI versions of some of the Mephisto programs, using Messtiny.exe:

http://rebel13.nl/dedicated/dedicated%20as%20uci.html

Is it possible to convert some of these additional engines into UCI in the same way?

He uses WB2UCI, if I remember correctly.
Some believe in the almighty dollar.

I believe in the almighty printf statement.

Well Fernando, there are no bugs in the program, there are only bugs in the user.

First, for some of the modules very short or fast mouseclicks are not always recognized (as mentioned in my description), just because these (real) machines are rather slow.
And second, for special moves (like capturing, enpassent, pawn promotion etc.) you'll have to know HOW to execute these moves correctly, so looking at my (short) descriptions or (better) into the manuals would be a good idea.

Hi Graham,

of course this WOULD be possible (in principle), but it would be VERY MUCH work, and I'm not interested at all in any WB/UCI versions of these old chess computers.
So don't expect anything like this from me ...

If you had told a bit more detailed, what problems you had (which machine? what did you do? what happened?), then I would certainly be able to give you a better answer how to avoid these 'bugs' (or better: problems).
