Best Arena Version

Post by BrendanJNorman »

Hey guys,

Just a quick question or two.

Whats the best version of Arena to use?

I noticed that despite there being a 3.5.1 version, some of you still use 3.0.

I am having issues (a bug?) in engine tournaments where only one engine's logo shows up in the clock area...

Is this related or does anyone know how to fix this?

Thanks you in advance friends.

Brendan :)

I rather recommend Chessbase GUIs like Fritz or for instance brand new Komodo 10 gui. The reason is they are more reliable and generally updated frequently to fix bugs.

Arena is somewhat buggy and troublesome, but still working for most users.

The logo bug happens when the openings are from a PGN file, right? That bug is in 3.0, also. If the engines use an .abk book or .epd file, both logos are shown.

Yes indeed. Just checked and you're right. Very interesting. Logos working with an .abk book.

Thanks Robert.

I should have added that both logos appear when engines use their own books, as, for example, with Crafty (.bin), HIARCS (.hcs), Shredder (.bkt), etc. It's only when a PGN file is used that only one logo is shown.

I've always assumed it's a known bug, but maybe I'm wrong about that.

Buenas a todos , alguien seria tan amable, de explicar claramente como instalar al brianfish su cerebellum en el arena . Más específicamente como acceder a los parámetros del motor en el arena, para poder escribirle la ruta. Muchas gracias. Good all, someone would be so kind as to explain clearly how to install the brianfish his cerebellum in the sand. More specifically as access parameters of the engine in the sand, to write the route. Thank you very much.

I use Arena 1.1 and 3. Both work very well.

I was told (and I do not remember who told me) that some Arena versions above 3.0 have problems with pondering. I do not know if this is true, but if anyone has more detailed information, let me know. Komodo buyers ask whihc version to use and I have been telling them 3.0, but it would be nice to recommend a newer version.
