Zarkov collection available ...

Post by Frank Quisinsky »

Hi there,

John Stanback checked my Zarkov collection in the evening and wrote:
"All of the stuff can be given away freely"

I added it for the moment on my webpage.
Computer Chess Wiki can added the file ...

I wrote a short readme:

For the moment you can find the older files on my older Winboard site: Frank's Chess Page ... have a look in my download area.

PS:
I am very happy about it because Zarkov is VIP (very important program) ...

Zarkov is one of the computer chess dinos, John Stanback is one of the first chess programmer.

Hi there,

John is working on a new engine, called Wasp.
Elo is around 400 higher as the older Zarkov versions ...

Older Zarkov 6.44 w32 version for an example:
SWCR Rating List:

Code: Select all

   # PLAYER : RATING POINTS PLAYED (%)
  82 Shredder 12 x64 / w32 : 2800.0 5325.5 9940 53.6%
 201 ChessTiger 2007 1.0012 w32 : 2530.3 973.5 3780 25.8%
 208 TheKing 3.50 x64 : 2492.0 359.0 1440 24.9%
 211 Zarkov 6.44 w32 : 2435.5 494.5 2340 21.1%
Wasp is UCI compatible and not completly ready.
I will start a test with a pre-release version tomorrow after the still running Hakkapeliitta TCEC v2 x64. It could be possible that John will give Wasp later free available. For the moment its important to see mistakes in the version John have.

For myself the event of the year because all the time Zarkov was one of my favorits in the past. I tested so many versions of Zarkov and now I have my event of the year. If you like you can follow ...

Sorry to the other programmers on my ToDo list ... alle engines on my ToDo list will be test of course ... but in this case ... absolutely first priority.

Thank you!

Currently have a tournament in progress...

Current game: Amoeba 1.2 vs Zarkov_486

White is getting the better of it, but Zarkov has SUCH an original style.

Love it.

Thanks again John and Frank.

Congrats to both

You have worked very hard to chess engines many years. I respect your work and I think winboard and uci chess would be very different without you.

I must thanks to John. Zarkov is a very interesting and original engine that i always wanted to test and I can do it.

Best regards

Hi Sergio,

you do also a lot in the past.
If I remember on Gambit-Soft times, you have a nice site I am looking often. I am sure you are the "Sergio Martinez" I have in my brain ...

Not important what I do in the past.
Today all wishes by myself are done. All should be compatible to standards and this was a really a hard fight. Many persons are working for the good idea: Volker Pittlik, Patrick Buchmann, Alexander Schmidt, Djordje Vidanovic, Thomas Mayer, Leo Dijksmann and so many others. The list is long ... more as 2.000 People I have in my older TheBat address book, people send information or do a bit.

All the programmers ... the group of French programmers are very strong and helps anytime. Never I forget Franck ZIBI ... with Handy in London, send me information for my older Winboard News Ticker to the WM. Seconds I updated my site the information are on ChessBase site too. Fully OK, made publicity for ChessBase around one year, the site was new.

Honestly:
John Stanback don't need any helps.
But I am very happy because I search such an order to do a bit in engine development in the next years. Not in programming but in find out other things.

Frank have an order ... good for all others ... because not so many bad English in TalkChess.

:-)
