Correction: The hardware for EXchess was a 3.1 GHz i7 iMac with 4 processors/threads and 8 GB of RAM (but only 4 GB of hash was used). It seems the entry for EXchess on the WCRCC homepage has incorrect information in a few of the fields. The webpage was correct just after EXchess registered, so I suspect some copy-n-paste error when other entries were added.

And Arasan was on a dual Xeon 2670, 24MB hash. The i7-6900k system is still in pieces on my kitchen table. I had to RMA the motherboard.

Just a side note, Raptor ran on Intel i5 laptop with 2cores@2.5GHz for the first 6 rounds, post that Raptor ran on the 32 core server.

I am not sure if that is reflected or not, in case someone is interested in that level of accuracy.

Chiron ran on a dual Opteron 6274. In the last two games 1 thread was used because of problems with the parallel search. In the other games 16 or 8. If someone needs this info, I could check the logs.

I see that there were 9 time forfeits. Unfortunately, 6 of them happened to zurichess (at least two were draws). Is there anything particular to ICC that is causing them?

While time forfeits could be zurichess fault, I hope not. In the Gambit tournament ran by Ed the engine had 0 time forfeits, and I don't see any issue on FICS either.

Arena is quite tolerant to time forfeit, other GUI's maybe are more strict.

One of the time forfeit games was by Tinker, however it was not actually a time issue at all. I have been making changes and Tinker got a valid opponent move but failed to accept it, so it just kept pondering until it was flagged.

Something similar may have been the real cause in other engines as well.

In the case of the event on ICC, it is the server that actually does the flagging I think. The GUI (in my case Winboard) simply asks the server to check the time remaining.

Generally, for the last 16 years I personally have found ICC to be far more stable with time and connection issues than FICS.

Re: 2016 10th WCRCC, Hardware and Cores Used Info

Post by Ferdy »

What I am doing is not official and I am just interested to add hardware info into the pgn. I like evaluating moves in a game with HW of a player in mind.

I decided to change the header value format now, adding cores used or perhaps threads used.

Daniel, Jon, Steve and Ubaldo, have some comments regarding their HW used. So I am providing a link to the google sheet so that other authors may update their info too if they are interested.

You can write/update on the following columns. What I have written there may actually not accurate.

NumCPU
Processor
SpeedGHz
MemoryGB
NumCores
CoresUsed
ThreadsUsed
Comment

The format I am trying to add in the Header is:

<NumCPU>x<Processor>, <SpeedGHz>, <MemoryGB>, <NumCores>, <CoresUsed>

Example 1:
1 x Intel i7-5960X, 3 GHz, 32 GB, 8-core, CoresUsed=7

The SpeedGHz, MemoryGB and NumCores are based on 1 cpu.

Example 2:
2 x Dual Intel E5-2660 v3, 2.6 GHz, 128 GB, 10-core, CoresUsed=19

It is important to have CoresUsed filled-up. If this is different from every round, put it in comment, the header in a game can be updated with this info too. So same engine different hardware and cores used at a given round can then be shown.
