Chiron 3 released

Post by Christian Goralski »

Dear Customer,
I'm glad to inform you that a new version of Chiron has been released.

Chiron 3 is about 60 points stronger than Chiron 2.

Now also available on Android:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... ss.chiron3

Here's a short list of changes:
- improved search (better parameters for pruning and move ordering)
- improved evaluation (in particular mobility and king safety)
- tuning of the evaluation
- new parallel search
- added support for Syzygybases
- added option "Tablebases Probe Depth" (default=6, lower it if you have a SSD)
- 6 pieces Scorpio bitbases can now be probed
- improved time management
- fixed a time management bug for X moves in Y minutes time controls (thanks to Gabor Szots)
- added option "Blockage Detection" to enable/disable pawn blockage detection
- added again support for CTG books

Before installing and using Chiron, you should first read the License Agreement contained in the file "License.txt".

Arturo Ochoa has improved his Polyglot opening book and kindly offered it to Chiron 3 customers.

If you have any problem with the installation or usage of Chiron write an email to support@chironchess.com

Best Regards,
Ubaldo Andrea Farina

I've played a few games with Chiron 3. It's a really nice, and I think underrated, engine. It's got a brilliant tactical search. Here's a nice win against Fritz 15 at 5 mins per game. Notice the superb piece play and coordination. I particularly liked the 12. Nf1 maneuver.

I tend to adjust contempt in negative number so it encourages Chiron to draw.

thank you Steve, and from what I read is an original engine, which is no small thing in these times where the clones or derivatives springing up like mushrooms after a rainstorm!
