yuri, a shallow 1 min search with SF7 does yield 24. Rxd4 as best move, so engines do play it... it's accepting the sac that is losing.

Another example of "brilliant" move 24.Rxd4!!?

Engines never select this move. Not because they are blind, but because they do not blunder

Glad to see this move again. I fed it to the engines, a long time ago, and also concluded that the only brilliancy on Kasparov's part, was introducing the intimidation factor into the game. When you do that, a specialty for him, your opponent will many times react cowardly or aggressively (like in Topalov's case). In any case, it's all about the wow factor, a psychological weapon, not the best move necessarily. That's why I've preferred Freestyle chess, over human chess, for a decade now, if you want quality chess there's nowhere else to go.

Thomas: You argue that computers don't play complex , brilliant chess moves that humans do because they avoid all the weak tactical moves that humans make. You infer that they build up strong tactical positions and wear the opponent down. I do agree that this is a feature of their play.Nonetheless I maintain that computer chess programs are capable of seeing deeply. For example when I put positions to my computer chess programs from games between strong human players and which have moves/solutions which are deep and complex they inevitably find it.

which SF version did you use?

I tried it with SF 16032816_x64_modern on an AMD 8 core system, using 16GB hash and syzygy tables (yes, there were tb hits).
Very latest developmental version (just compiled). 16 threads and 1 GB hash. No TBs.
