Your path to mastership: 500K+ PGN for Chess Hero

Chess Hero is probably the best chess training software, by far.

For the convenience of users, I have compiled a PGN collection:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0ByQkHH ... ef=2&pli=1

After installation of Chess Hero, download this file and put it in a folder like e.g. {blabla}/ChessHero/pgn, and run it. You get six carefully selected PGN databases. Now here is a proposal as for how to use them in Chess Hero:

All of that can be adjusted by individual priorities.

This perfectly configurable, UCI compatible program does not leave anything to desire in terms of engines. Here, a configuration example for Komodo 7a:

Recommended free engines:

http://komodochess.com/ (currently Komodo 7a)
http://www.cruxis.com/chess/houdini.htm (scroll down to Houdini 1.5a)
http://talkchess.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=59002 (Gull 3.0.1)

(for Gull see also https://sourceforge.net/projects/gullchess/ )

In case that with Stockfish the eval scale is broader still - I am not sure - this would make the success for the trainee more difficult. But it can be compensated by adjusting the eval threshold. Without Stockfish, I use:

The rest of the important settings is easily to be seen. For hobby players and house masters  with fairly good hardware, I think 5 to 10 seconds are sufficient for the engine. For the more ambitious, calculation time of the engine and/or the time limit for oneself can be adjusted. Chess Hero offers plenty of options for that. Everyone can configure his own optimal chess training.

Chess Hero is a great tactics trainer. Unfortunately, the author hasn't updated in a couple of years.

I don't know what we should demand from an update, except cosmetics like more sounds, more board/piece graphics and such insignificant stuff which is not necessary. The core mechanics seem perfect.
