I posted this position a little over a year and a half ago, and while it did look like Louis was able to solve it with the latest (at the time) development version of Stockfish (at a depth of 55/82), he said it did take a while and was difficult. I was wondering if any programs/hardware now can improve on that.
here is the position before Rxd5!!

Lovely position! I am curious as to whether the position after Rxd5!! is winning? Are there other ideas that may allow black to draw?
I looked at d4 and it seems that move may be losing although it seems to be the most logical move. How about :

Is white winning here? White should be winning, but blacks pawns look dangerous.

Thanks Jouni, I knew there had to be at least 1 engine out there that would get this position in a reasonable amount of time, it was just a matter of choosing the right one. I never thought to try H3 tactical, I tried mostly newer engines.

Hello Robert, what if white instead of playing 26.bxa4 played 26.Bxd5 in your line?

Re: Test Position: Rxd5!! still to tough for my engines/hard
But scores are not very clear. After Houdini 4 main line we have
[D]2r3k1/5p1p/5q2/3Q4/R7/6P1/5P1P/6K1 b - - 0 37
Draw? We always need at least +2-+3 score to be quite sure.

Re: Test Position: Rxd5!! still to tough for my engines/hard
Hi Andrew, I assumed that would transpose into the main line I offered after 26.Bxd5 Qe8.acase wrote:Robert Flesher wrote:acase wrote:I posted this position a little over a year and a half ago, and while it did look like Louis was able to solve it with the latest (at the time) development version of Stockfish (at a depth of 55/82), he said it did take a while and was difficult. I was wondering if any programs/hardware now can improve on that.
here is the position before Rxd5!!

If you were wondering
where this position came from here is the game:

Lovely position! I am curious as to whether the position after Rxd5!! is winning? Are there other ideas that may allow black to draw?
I looked at d4 and it seems that move may be losing although it seems to be the most logical move. How about :

Is white winning here? White should be winning, but blacks pawns look dangerous.
Hello Robert, what if white instead of playing 26.bxa4 played 26.Bxd5 in your line?
