Ron Nelson maybe will come here...

Ron Nelson, the man that begun all in Fidelity, in 1979, has been going and posting in Hiarcs forum and it is probable he will make a visit here to take a look.
An incredible creative engineer, Nelson not only programmed the first personal dedicated unit chess machine, but he created many other things related to the hardware part of this industry, as voice, sensory surfaces, etc, besides designing the circuits that made possible relatively affordable machines for running the -in those time- primitive chess codes.
As in the Hiarcs forum, Ron could answer lot of question related to specially the beginnings of our common hobby.
Of course, I cannot guarantee he will come, but maybe he will...

I am Ron Nelson the inventor of Chess Challenger.

Actually registered doesn't allow posting, but today I was cleared by the administrator to post. So I may now "speak", but have little to say since this forum has not besmirched my good name in absentia.

This is a photo of the Chess Challenger prototype that was shown around Europe by Sid Samole to find out if there was interest.
The sketch is the one I made for my concept design suggestion and of course the name I suggested. This sketch was done after I had built a working breadboard and set it in front Sid Samole to play a game of chess.

I never stopped programming chess at Fidelity after the Spracklens were hired to work for me. Their programming efforts were high end products and mine were the low end consumer chess computer products.
When their development had peaked I worked with Dan to improve the tactical threat quiescent search that nudged us over the barrier to get Fidelity a rated Chess Master consumer chess computer.

After Fidelity's demise, I worked for Excalibur Electronics and Shane Samole to personally program and design every computer chess game Excalibur had manufactured in China.
Fidelity and Excalibur never owned my programs and paid royalties to me for products using my chess programs and the Spracklen's chess engine.

Here is a list of some late Fidelity and all Excalibur computer chess products using my software programs:

Hi Mr Nelson.......my chess challenger 8 is sitting on a shelf not far from this laptop......do you think you could convert that code (chess challenger) into a working w32 and w64 chess engine....If so I ould love to put the chess challenger (wb or uci) to the test against some old favorites like King350 and Fritz 5.32......Thx AR :) :wink:

Surely you mean what happened in Hiarcs forum, where I was the guy that began the thread.
In that thread there was NEVER a dark purpose to besmirch your name, but a desire to discuss the complex issue of how and when was programmed this or that computer.
My original point, without the knowledge you provided later, was that it was possible you had made good use of Spracklen code -why not?- and new techniques developed these last years.
I have said there and/or here that any technical progress is made out of using past development, no as inventions from the blue.
Now we know better and any doubt was erased.
If you felt hurt, please accept my excuses.
