Schooner1.4_64.exe

- WinBoard compatible
- 64 bit
- SSE Popcnt support
- Default hash size 128Mb - adjustable
- 1 CPU - no threading
- No pondering allowed
- Resident personality book
- Also supports polyglot style book - named "book.bin" in the same directory as the engine.
- No endgame table base support

Could you please provide a non-popcount build as well?

Thanks in advance,
Graham.

Here is an update for Schooner with versions:

Schooner1.4.2_64.exe
Schooner1.4.2_64np.exe
Schooner1.4.2_32.exe

- WinBoard compatible
- 64/64np/32 bit versions
- SSE Popcnt and non-popcount support
- Default hash size 256Mb - adjustable
- 1 CPU - no threading
- No pondering allowed
- Resident personality book
- Also supports optional polyglot style book - named "book.bin" in the same directory as the engine.
- No endgame table base support
- ICS capability

From a command line type "help" for the engine commands.

9/23/2015 Changes:

1. added Blitz levels with Incremental Clock
2. removed overloaded force <move>, thanks to Bob Hyatt!
3. added memory feature for CECP compliance

The recommended version to use is Schooner1.4.2_64.exe, with SSE popcount support. The other two builds were made at the request for backward compatibility. There is a 64-bit non-popcount(np) version, and a 32-bit version.

My apologies if this is a little difficult to download. I find git a very unforgiving hackers utility.

Download procedure:

Right click on the file and press Open
A window should pop up saying View Raw
Press View Raw and save the executable

Someone might have some better suggestions.

I thought that your engine was open source, will be open source?

I was wondering because it's hosted in Github

Good question. The engine executable versions are published gratis. It might be open source someday but there is lot of questions I have about making software source public domain. The issue might be discussed in the Engine Origins Forum. Open source is of little use since there are much stronger and polished open sources available such as Crafty and Stockfish.

In the meantime, if github is confusing then suggest where the executables can be made available for users. I do not operate a web page.

You are welcome Graham. I do have a 64-bit non-popcount machine so the np version has not been fully tested yet. There have been no complaints so far.
