fritz is a brand, not an engine. frans morsch had nothing to do with the engine that powered fritz 14.

the latest rybka is what will power fritz 15.

The name Fritz is owned by Chessbase. The engine has been different engines over the last versions. After Frans Morsch (up to version 13) and Gyula Horvath (version 14) they might be looking for another programmer/engine for the Fritz engine.

What surprises me is that I do not find any info on the Chessbase site. And normally they release there products at the end of the year (for Christmas).

Jan

Code: Select all

Fritz 15 (Vas Rajlich?)
Should a thread with such a title not be immediately taken to the "Engine Origins" subforum ?
My engine was quite strong till I added knowledge to it.

Vas has always promised to come back, so this news (IF it is true) is no surprise to me.

Very smart move by both ChessBase and Vas. Vas easily becomes the best paid engine author, ChessBase has the right programmer to gain elo on the latest Fritz version, with Komodo and SF programmers not available.

Of course it is also a nice and silent 'middle finger' to the CFACC commission, led by the ICGA and all the people that supported it.

An interesting observation: in the latest years it has been ChessBase policy not to enter tournaments, I wonder if this would change. Suppose CB is willing to enter and sponsor the WCCC, the ICGA is not going to risk another questionable investigation. That's for sure.

my hope is he never really went away :)

i really would expect his private engine to be at top level...or maybe he'll leap everything by 150 elo again.

I suspect not. If they want to show that they have a top-rating engine again, then there are lots of ratings lists out there that will show it.

Years ago Fritz used to be near the top, and it seems that this is a serious attempt to get it back up there again. I wish them luck.

ah, hadn't seen this thread ye when i replied to the (newer?)
thread ' Rybka author to license his ideas to Fritz' .

What i posted, and suspect, is that Rajlich, both being Hungarian
and Horvath (Pandix/F14) are going to cooperate for F15.

As for all the hype i suspect there's not much commercial
gain anymore in programming engines, even when it's
for Chessbase , so i don't see much need for flame wars.

As for ICCC, well that's another matter; they probably will
not join, unless they publicly confess that some parts of
the codes originate from Fruit, i suppose; anyway my sympathy
is with DeepShredder 13, apparently coming end this year,
coz he won the programming tourn (and i'm only allowed
to play with Shredder on my Fics comp account).
