Stockfish 6 Release Candidate 1

Post by Leto »

Woke up to a nice surprise today, Stockfish 6 Release Candidate 1 now available at the Stockfish development website:
http://abrok.eu/stockfish/

Is it safe to start testing it for the rating lists, or is it likely that this candidate won't be the official Stockfish 6 release?

Most probably it won't be the official release....

The best rating list maintainers can do at this point is to make sure that the engine works for them as expected. And report all the issues they encounter to SF Team.

However we do not recommend doing any games for official rating lists. Of course every rating list maintainer is free to do whatever they feel best.

We more or less know the result before the rating lists, thanks to all the extensive testing that has been done already. For example, SF6 4cpu should top CCRL 40/4 (Pure list) with ~3440 elo.
Theory and practice sometimes clash. And when that happens, theory loses. Every single time.

Wow Lucas, that would be a great improvement +73ELO as for now SF 5 has 3367

At slower time controls I predict around 45-50 Elo improvement....

SF5 has 3398 on the pure list to which Lucas referred.

I hope the bug (https://groups.google.com/forum/?fromgr ... M8I_mYG_UJ) intoduced during the last TCEC will be fixed for this new official release. Mostly because if it isn't now, I wonder whether it will ever be fixed :)
