This position is mate in 17 with 1.Rg3 but is very hard for engines.
Can your engine find it?

Ignacio.

I agree computers should find because there are a lot transpositions and forced moves !

I tried Komodo, and it chooses Kg3 for a long time before switching to Bxd8 at depth 34 with an eval of +31.17. But I need to give it more time.

No engine can find it because it's not a mate in 17....

Elaboration, please. How did you prove the non-existence of mate-in-17? Thanks.

I checked it for about 15 minutes, and I found no error in the mate in 17.
White have to do all of this :
First : Play Rg3 and then :
- Take the B with Kh4-h5-h6xh7 (play a waiting move if it's needed)
- Take the queen (Rxf3) when Qf3 is played
- Take the f and a pawn on the first row (play a waiting move if it's needed)
- Then play the forced mate.

Black appears to be in zugzwang.
Most engines won't find it then.

Even with null-move pruning disabled, Stockfish isn't finding anything ... yet:
