A Preposterous Cliche and Its Consequences

Post by fern »

Since time ago a cliche has became almost an axiom here. It is this: in CTF lurks a band of madmen, insulting people, racists, religious fanatics etc. That is bad enough, but the worst part is that some believe that CTF can operate as the bin trash of anything some guys does not like to see here.
CTF is not the bin trash of this place. It is a place where people discuss other things than computer chess. The name, "thinkers forum" must be intended as metaphor or even a joke, a self deprecating thing, at last the invention of the original owner of this place, Mr Shwartz, not that we members thinks we are professional thinkers. To take seriously just a name and from that to shoot at us with rage and disdain is a show of imbecility.
Respect the mood, CTF is not that harsh and often it is lot less harsh than this place.
IN CTF could exist a dose of nonsense, but not more than here, where there is no scarcity of people given to insult , disdain and disrespect to other guys. BTW, here we see wars for the most insignificant questions. A harsh dialogue about a religious issue at least has sense, in any case more than harshness about what engine is better for this or that.
Most of the guys that repeat as parrots how bad a place is CTF has been never there, has never shared a discussion and probably could not do such a thing.
Others who say they does not go there due to his high sense of his dignity and etc etc goes non the less.
Stop the nonsense. And stop the throwing to CTF of anything you does not like. Stop that air of political correctness that some adopts so easily.

If I'm not mistaken, the only reason for the less than positive remarks about CTF was that some people, including me, suggested CTF as the proper place for non-computer chess related topics.

Given that you feel at home at CTF (you're even a moderator there as I noticed only a few days ago), the suggestion "if you want to discuss something else, why not CTF" seems to make only more sense.

Of course. CTF is for that. My complain has been about the fact that some guys does not simply say what you say, but add a quota of insulting remarks

I don't think this is on-topic. Should probably be in CTF :-)
