A game text that must have brackets like a PGN but should not necessary be a true PGN... that is something done half-way to me.

If you want to generate portable game notation, then use PGN.
If you want a nice looking game text window you dont need the curly brackets.
Anything inbetween is half-way done.

Note I was still editing my previous posting with an answer to one of your other postings when already two new postings appeared!

That it follows the principles of the PGN header is one of the things I dislike about it most. Because it is not in the header. What is good for a header, need not be good for embedded comments/annotations.

And one of the most important principles of the header is that each tag is on a different line. This is pretty essential for maintaining readibility of the tags in the chosen format. The embedded pseudo-tags do not respect that principle at all.

My primary concern is to get things such that they work well. If rigidly adhering to ideologies would lead to producing things that do not work well, I am quite happy to abandon those ideologies. I prefer a half-way solution that works perfectly over a perfect solution that only works half any time!

Someone mentioned the higher magnitude of Gaviota scores in this thread.

The screenshot has it at 2.60/1.39 = 1.9 approx.

1.9 does not mean SF clone, though !
My engine was quite strong till I added knowledge to it.

Fine. But then at least dont call PGN something that is not PGN. Just call it HGM game text notation. Otherwise it's confusing for people trying to understand what your numbers might mean and looking for explanations where there's none.

Hello Matthias and all ChessGUI lovers

It's been a long time since I used ChessGUI. I decided to try the latest version 0.245g.

It's not starting well; When I start the program, I see a board with no pieces and squares only for rows 3 through 6. Does anyone have any idea what's going on? :?:
