EXchess v7.17 released

Post by dchoman »

Hi Everyone,

EXchess v7.17 is now available from my new webaddress...

https://sites.google.com/site/experimentalchessprogram/

This version is a modest improvement on v7.11, as I haven't had much development time; however, I think it may have gained about 20-30 elo over the previous version. More importantly, a few bugs have been fixed related to time control and multi-threaded processing. Depending on how you use the program, the elo gain may be larger due to these fixes.

Thanks!

Thanks Dan.
Should be interesting to see how much gain there is.

Hi Dan,

I tried using Exchess with Scid on my linux machine. How do I tell the GUI to make Exchess use more than one core?

Hi Michael !

Take a look in the search.par file (in the below area):

========================
THREADS 1 # number of processors to use, this may be changed
# by the 'cores' command, either on the
# command line or while the program is running
# Maximum value = LIMIT_THREADS

LIMIT_THREADS 4 # Maximum number of processors the program can use
# after it is started. The number of processors
# can be changed dynamically with the 'cores' command
# up to the limit defined here.
# Maximum value = 16 (hard coded limit)
========================

Have a nice weekend !

Hi Dan,

my quick tests, after 440 games at bullet time, show ExChess 7.17b to be about 17+ Elo points stronger than 7.11b. Congrats!

Code: Select all

  61 EXchess-7.17b             : 2637.6     111.0     440   25.2%
  64 EXchess-7.11b             : 2620.3     209.0     600   34.8%

Hi Julien,

Coming from you, I would have expected you also give the error bars!... 8-)

I blame it all on Miguel: Ordo doesn't give such informations (or it does but I don't know it because I didn't read the manual! :lol: )
