Vice 1.0

I would like to point out a new engine that seems to have gone unnoticed - Vice 1.0 (Video Instructional Chess Engine). To go along with the engine, the author has a series of YouTube videos detailing how to create a simple chess engine in C.

Vice came to be as part of a YouTube video tutorial series showing how to create a simple chess engine in C. Vice isn't meant to be anything other than a resource for people starting out with computer chess, and hopefully provides some help and guidance. I certainly don't claim to anything more than a beginner at this myself. The program is not optimised, is definitely not written to a high standard - it is a hobby programmer's attempt to give something back to a great and vibrant community.

Vice is Winboard, UCI protocol compatable. It also has a console mode, but a GUI is much better. It plays under Shredder, Winboard, Chessbase, Arena without (so far) problems.

You are welcome to use the code as you like to help with your projects!

I suspect R. (the author of L. and J.) to be the author of this tutorial and engine. :) Those tutorials involved a lot of work! They are very clear and smartly assembled. Thanks R.! But why being anonymous ? Your work deserves a lot of credits!

Not really.

I host the files, and my name is to be found on other pages on the site.

I also have www.klughoener.de, www.paultaylorf1.com amongst others for friends. Perhaps I sell speakers and write about f1 also?

I don't see my name anywhere on the the info for Vice, though.

There's usually a reason for anonymity. Certainly odd to see my name on the http://computer-chess.org/ engine list, and a bit annoying.

Hi Richard,

I was misinformed that you were the author. I cross-checked by doing a whois for the website and that seemed to confirm that Vice was yours. Sorry for the mistake. I have removed your name from the Vice entry.
