Recently I played a game I lost terribly. I think it is because of the weird opening: 1 e2-e4, b8-c6, 2 g1-f3 and now f7-f5.
I played e4-e5 but what is the right answer or refutation of f7-f5 ?

Re: Weird opening
After taking the pawn he would have played d7-d5 I guess.
Game looks like a reversed Vienna or King Gambit with a badly paced knight on f3

Henk, You lost "tempo" by double moving the E pawn. Your opponent was probably a few hundred elo points stronger than you. Next time let your opponent lose tempo.

Re: Weird opening
No I played in a group with a maximum ELO of 1850. The one I played against won first price maybe his rating was between 1800 and 1925. Mine is 1780 - 1800. I lost a point by playing two times petroff defense which means two draws. So I do have to find an alternative for black.tjfroh wrote:Henk, You lost "tempo" by double moving the E pawn. Maybe if I do not now how to play against this weird opening I should play this weird opening myself. Then if I loose, I at least know what to play with white.

Never met that - but playing simple chess usually will do like:
1.e4 Nc6 2.Nf3 f5 3. exf5 - and now if 3.-d5 white can start playing
for the square e5 like 4. Bb5 Bxf5 5. Ne5 Qd6 6.d4 with an easier game for white
(reminds me of a game I played vs CM personality GM Zukertort - went like this:
1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bb5 a6 4.Bxc6+ dxc6 5.0-0 f5!??
Here we go again! -should be some old Morphy-variation and gave me this "What??" - feeling
Got the better of it by taking the pawns in the center - first Nxe5 then exf5
playing simple chess

Re: Weird opening
Looks good to me. Bb5 is a good one. Looks so simple that I wonder why can't I invent that myself. This explains my poor chess playing capabilities.Kyodai wrote:Henk wrote:Recently I played a game I lost terribly. I think it is because of the weird opening: 1 e2-e4, b8-c6, 2 g1-f3 and now f7-f5.
