Ivanov has contact with aliens.

Aliens contacted Author of Houdini via his telescope how to write the program. Free Houdini 1.5a is still better then other programs - according CCRL list. It is a fact and prove for that.

Alien is going to Ivanov body during some games and dictates how to move. It explains the speed of the interface.
It explains why Ivanov in rapids plays similar to Houdini.

There is no other explanation for that.

PS. I believe more Topalov then Lilov.
When logic and proportion have fallen sloppy dead.

When the men on the chessboard get up and tell you where to go.
And the white knight is talking backwards. And the red queen's off with her head.

Go ask Alice, I think she'll know. :)
You're to young to remember that!
I don't understand what you all are talking about. Looks like some surreal stuff. Maybe a dream that's never ended. Like the American dream: "Anything is possible". Europeans normally don't think that way.
It's words from a song that came from the late 60's when music was good.
We cannot proof if music is good or bad. Can we ? But we are off topic now.
[Same holds for chess. We can't proof if its more fun to play against a particular chess machine than another.]
As they say, beauty is skin deep, but ugly goes clean to the bone. We cannot prove it but we know it when we see it.

My comment is more on the originality and soul of music from that era. There is probably more raw talent in singers and musicians today, but they are all imitators and you find very few really unique artists. Most today copy whoever is making the hits.

In a way that is on topic here because it's that way in computer chess, more and more working from a starter kit (such as existing program) and now humans are copying computers as this thread is all about. People have always been imitative and to an extent that is good but where is the style?
About that song they mention logic and proportion but not unity, balance and order. Maybe these are terms of the late 1920's.
That song is likely about drugs, perhaps an LSD trip. A similar drug fantasy song by the Beatles was Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds - where the lyrics describe bizarre and colorful scenes that you imagine.
I think we are crossing over the threshold of the twilight zone here and this probably belongs in the useless chess thinkers forum where they argue about stuff like how many angels will fit on the head of a pin and superstitious philosophies.

Proof, measurements, calculations may end discussions. At this moment I'm more interested in how knowledge can be implemented efficiently in chess programs.

Join the club then! To me this has always been the holy grail. Right now knowledge is implemented in an ad-hoc manner. We get some idea and there is no unified framework for implementing it unless it falls into some specific category - such as being scored by a table.

You can have a nice unified framework however, but they are not effective because there is always something new you want to do which is not provided by your current system and requires some sort of one-off special case coding.

But even if you had a nicely organized method for adding any sort of knowledge in a consistent way, the even bigger problem is WHAT to add, how to integrate this knowledge into the score (weights and such) and how to achieve some sort of balance and avoid redundant terms.

Child of the 60's, first music I ever heard. Still my favorite.

Yes a problem is what to Add. You can't use clustering algorithms on all chess positions. Clustering is slow and there are too many positions.

Experts should tell us what knowledge too add. But they are normally not willing to give away their scarce knowledge. Or you cannot understand what they are talking about.

It is a song and interpretation of the book Alice in Wonderland. It has several meanings.

Don't go chasing rabbits(asking questions), unless you are willing to see how deep the rabbit hole really go's.

If you chase rabbits, you might take a fall.

I was using the reference to say the post about aliens was literary nonsense.

As the book about Alice in Wonderland is one of the best examples of this genre.

Here is the whole song.

Nonsense are speculations, allegations in that thread, either.
I include the story with aliens as comparable to the remainig stuff. :)

Maybe it's entertainment. If you do not know the answer to a question, maybe it's better to say I do not know than producing a lot of fiction and fantasy.

I found it entertaining, speculation can be fun. And is more believable then some of the other speculation.

I rank this just below FM Lilov's bionic contact lens theory, as your speculation is harder to fact check! :)

Those speculations are being fiction and fantasy either. My was science-fiction and it is less painful for people.
