If you want to use a file, that should be a .txt file with FENs. The values are set by using the letters W, D, or L (Win, Draw, Lost) before every FEN string followed by '|'. E.g.:

W|8/8/8/PkP5/1P4p1/5pKp/8/8 b - - 0 1
L|8/8/PkP5/1P4p1/5pKp/8/8/8 w - - 0 1
D|8/8/PkP5/1P3pp1/5K1p/8/8/8 w - - 0 1
D|8/8/8/P1k5/1PP3p1/5pKp/8/8 b - - 0 1
Hi Arpad

I'm not too familiar with FinalGen, so could you please tell me where this file should be put? I have no "set value" button in FinalGen, only for copying and pasting FENs.

You must use a special version of FinalGen:

There's no 50 move rule in play here... mutual zugzwang position that is the key to solving the original position...

There are so many pawn pushes the 50 move counter means zero basically.

Sorry, Arpad, but after having installed the version your link downloads instead of 1.3 I already had, I can't find any way to determine positions other than the one to start with.

I installed the version linked to by Arpad. You have to paste the FEN of a starting position, then click on the button for generating TBs. Then, with this version, a new window pops up that enables you to enter positions via a file or manually.
The thing is I cannot use the "Set Value" button because the dropdown menu for setting values like Wins, Loses, etc is blank and nothing can be selected.

Click on the "triangle" of the dropdown menu: then it will show the values to choose from.

Sorry, you should use the letter 'B' (Black) instead of 'L' for Black Wins.

That's what I did, Arpad, the menu does drop down but it's empty.

That, on the other hand works well as for my installation on 64xWin7Pro.
Thanks for the hints.

when I click on set value after copying/pasting a fen I get the message

'the position already exists in the database and cannot be overwritten'
