In ELO terms 4% is quite a lot, especially at this high of a level. Of course for normal every day usage it should hardly make a difference, but for someone who has gone through the trouble of having Large Pages ON and has overclocked his CPU and is trying to get every last bit of performance, it would make quite a big difference. I know that people playing engine matches on Playchess try to milk everything from their setup, and for sure they would be interested in a performance gain. I guess this would make two separate compiles a worthwhile effort.

Jim Ablett wrote:Actually can someone confirm that JA popcount builds actually run faster than the JA non-popcount ones. They may not be using popcount at all.

Jim.
They do. On my Intel the bench is:

Intel x64
ms 3136

Intel x64 popcount
ms 3059

http://abrok.eu/stockfish/ SSE4.2 version
3013 ms

http://abrok.eu/stockfish/ modern
3012

So in fact is is the abrok.eu SSE4.2. version that is no faster with SSE4.2
