Need expert advice on this position

Post by vb4 »

[d]8/p3k2p/2p2p2/4nN1P/PP2P3/4K3/8/8 b - -

I am interested to know what this forum thinks of this position. Perhaps an expert chess player or anyone who is willing to analyze this position would be very helpful. I think for an engine it apperas to need a long analysis but I am far from an expert. To my inexperienced eye it looks like a draw. Any help or thoughts on this position would be very helpful.

Thanks in advance,

Les

Hallo Les,

I gave it a short run with Stockfish Hybrid, the latest experimental build. The position does not look very complicated at first glance so I don't see any problems with a computer analysis here. My development computer here is slow so your own computer is probably faster. 35 plies here in 23 minutes seems okay, but the old standard version build 179 is maybe a little bit faster in plies per time.

Recent change: trying to implement an exclusion search with singular extension for the Root node again, but a bit simpler than before.

Debugging is twice as hard as writing the code in the first
place. Therefore, if you write the code as cleverly as possible, you
are, by definition, not smart enough to debug it.

Hi Eleco,

Thx for your input. I have used Stockfish for analysis and have extended the analysis time to 72 hours and was hoping I can get someone out here with a higher end computer or some expert chess player for their thoughts. The analysis seems to be sitting around ce 0.24 for wtm or -0.24 for btm. Hopefully others out here will provide their thoughts. Thank you so much for yours.

Hi Milan,

Thx for the analyses.

Based on what you see what are your thoughts about the outcome potential of the game? I have been running analyses for the last maybe 12 to 15 plies that led up to this position and it seems that both sides are only moving their kings and knights and don't dare move a pawn. I am just wondering if this is a drawn position.

Yeah it's a draw. Any pawn move loses a pawn so there is no way to make progress hence a draw.
