Troitzky, 1930.

Post by Ajedrecista »

Hello:

I was searching a thematic composition of 1930 and I finally found it. Here it is:

http://www.yacpdb.org/?id=281057

[d]n7/8/P2p4/8/1p6/7p/N3B1k1/4K3 w - -
Solution:

1. Bc4 Nc7 (1... Nb6 2. a7) 2. a7 h2 3. a8=Q+ $1 3...
Nxa8 4. Bd5+ Kg1 5. Bh1 $1 5... Nb6 (5... Kxh1 6. Kf2)
(5... b3 6. Nc1 b2 7. Ne2+ Kxh1 8. Kf2 b1=Q 9. Ng3#)
6. Nc1 Nd5 7. Ne2+ Kxh1 8. Kf2 Nf4 9. Ng3# 1-0
Black can delay its lose with 4.- ..., Kg3.

I have tried several top engines and none of them have found Bc4 with short analysis (around three minutes each in an old Dual core of year 2006). I want to ask if longer analysis in faster hardware would find the key move.

I want to note the excellent web Yet another chess problem database, which was unknown to me until now.

Regards from Spain.

It must be SMP variance, luck or whatever it is called. Now, Houdini found Bc4 in around a minute:
