I am gradually migrating away from talkchess but it's not personal. I like this forum and the people in it, but I hate the forum software.
Openchess has some interesting people that posts fairly regularly and some of the same people that are already here. I am not going away entirely but I think I would prefer to support a more modern website that is easier to use. And I'm hoping that by making this move it will encourage others to do so also. In particular it's just awkward to post games and program output, nothing is more annoying that paging down several screens to look at program output. Modern forums put these into scroll boxes.
I'm doing more tests on draw aversion and I will post results on openchess.

Capital punishment would be more effective as a preventive measure if it were administered prior to the crime.

Hi,
Thanks, but no thanks. I prefer to talk to real people instead of talking to Userxxxxxxx, badboy and co.

If we change the software of this site, you can have both.Michael Diosi wrote:Hi,

I think Don has a point regarding the ability of post games. Most of the time I do not fee like cutting and pasting pgn files to survey all the games that are being posted as pgns. The fact that now the computer output of pgns are filled with crap (%emt blah blah) makes them unreadable. Pgns used to be human readable and I followed the game blindfold, not anymore, but this is just a pet peeve of mine.
Gigantic code postings is another nuisance, not to mention how the software of this site makes the life of moderators a pain to say the least. There is a lot of time wasted and problems that wouldn't arise otherwise.

Don,
some guys will feel like you've stabbed them in the back !
But your move may be the quickest way to update the forum software here.
Here and in OpenChess, I particularly miss a button to thank for or express agreement with a good posting.
Immortal guys can easily thank each other.

This is about the horrible quality of the antiquated forum software. Given a choice I am just going to prefer the more modern site, there is no good reason (for me) not to do so.

For the record, openchess quoting sucks just as badly as CCC. Ditto for Rybka forum.michiguel wrote:If we change the software of this site, you can have both.Michael Diosi wrote:Hi,

But I'm not. I like everyone here. But there is just not a good reason to put up with the software when I have a choice. I'll still be posting here from time to time.Matthias Gemuh wrote:Don,

We are seriously considering the update. The thing is, we have to persuade ChessUSA that we need it (they host us for free, so any extra work for them has to be seriously motivated).Matthias Gemuh wrote:Don,

I made a complete change log of all phpbb's versions between Talkchess' one and the most recent one. It is more than 1600 lines long.
Who wants to help us synthesize this document?
Here it is.

If the software was updated to match something like openchess I would prefer staying here. But until that happens anything of a technical nature that is interesting I will post on openchess.michiguel wrote:If we change the software of this site, you can have both.Michael Diosi wrote:Hi,

If I think about it, I will give a heads up about anything interesting happening on openchess.
