Re: Windows 8 Released Today
Got the release preview up and running in a virtualized environment and looks good. Will play around with it for a bit.

Re: Windows 8 Released Today
I preordered windows 8 at Newegg, arrived Friday.
I have played about 25 games online at one of the chess servers with windows 8.
No bugs yet and no issues.
Comes with IE 10, no issues yet.
Speed seems the same as with windows 7.
My version is Windows 8 Professional.
I assume windows 8 Ultimate will follow soon.
Still learning the app screen, I have my windows 8 desktop set up like the windows 7 version without the apps.
Have not optimized yet but will very soon.
Checked in Crystal Disk Info, Trim is enabled.
Benched SSD 367 (slow marvell controller).
I did not use windows 8 Hotmail.
I used windows live essentials mail, loaded ok.
still learning and getting faster.

Re: Windows 8 Released Today
The more I use windows 8 the more I like it.
I have set up a custom desktop, looks like windows 7.
So far I do not use the app screen at all.
All of my shortcuts are on my desktop.
I do have to pass through the app screen to login and power down.
Anyway no bugs, chess programs run good, good speed.
I want to learn more about the Optimize function for the hard drive.
I still have more to optimize in windows 8.
Trim works good.
Large pages works.
No blue screens, no freezes.
Moving around is getting faster, power down selection is not convenient.
more later

If you don't use a password you can remove the lock screen from group policies. If you want to have W8 only use the desktop you can do it via creating a scheduled task that start "explorer.exe" at logon (explorer is the app of the desktop). In this way W8 goes immediately to the desktop at logon.kgburcham wrote: I do have to pass through the app screen to login and power down.
For power down there are many solutions. One is to use Win + I and then select immediately power (same thing but with a key shortcut) or you can create commands (as "shutdown.exe /s /t 00" to shutdown or "shutdown.exe /r /t 00" to restart) and then put them on "programdata/microsoft/windows/start menu" to have them on start (or simply put them on the desktop or taskbar).

Re: Windows 8 Released Today
I guess i'm glad some people are liking Win8. I shouldn't really comment without using it.
But here's a provoking quote from the Inquirer
But here's a provoking quote from the Inquirer
Windows 8 seems to be inspired by the mass transit kiosk or industrial controls school of design, more suited for use by perpetually hungover Homer Simpsons than inspiring and enabling flights of productive creativity by information workers, academics, scientists and artists in mathematics, wordsmithing, graphics and performance media. It's a leap backwards in usability.

I agree StevenIt's a leap backwards in usability.
When I first loaded windows 8 it was not usable for me.
Windows 8 is all about selling apps for the pc.
The first thing I did was make it usable for me and easy to navigate.
I am almost there.
I like it enough that I am going to buy another copy and load it on my SR-2.

Re: Windows 8 Released Today
Hmmm...
If you don´t own a touch screen monitor, can you tell me the new features W8 has that makes the upgrade worth the money?
Let me guess... apart from being heavier and taking more space to install, you get that crap of desktop "for dummies" and " better hardware compatibility" ?!
No, thanks, uncle Balmer !
The next great novelty from Apple could be the release of an official OSX for PCs. That would really hit the market and sink Microsoft !
